This commentary focuses on the role being played by the Kurdish Democratic Union Party (PYD) in the Syrian Civil War. It confirms that the US’ support in the fight against ISIS has enabled the PYD to pursue its territorial claims and maintain its alliance with the Assad regime, which in turn has fueled Arab tribal support for jihadists and complicated the chances of finding a viable solution to the civil war.
