This commentary argues that the policies the US has pursued in response to China's rising military and economic power have been largely self-defeating. More specifically, the text's author describes how the US has undermined its trade and financial diplomacy by failing to 1) close the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) in July 2015, and 2) contest China’s territorial claims more aggressively.
