This brief assesses the unusual measures being taken by Tanzania’s new President John Magufuli, particularly in the cases of public services, his war against corruption, finding a middle path for the political logjam that exists in Zanzibar, and his radical way of pursuing institutional reforms in the country. The brief also considers Magufuli's approach towards Tanzania's foreign policy and diplomacy.
