This paper focuses on how Russian President Vladimir Putin and Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban use myths of national grandeur to support their respective political narratives. The text's author particularly zeros in on 1) Charles de Gaulle's coining of the term "grandeur," which seemingly consists of promoting a great national cause that validates an image of national greatness; and 2) how de Gaulle's past mythologizing helps illuminate the political narratives now being pursued by the leaders of Russia and Hungary.
