This commentary explores the degree to which the emerging energy market in the Eurasian Economic Union (EEU) is compatible with the EU-driven the European Energy Community (EEC). In exploring this question, the text's author looks at 1) the differing conceptual foundations of energy markets, particularly when it comes to pricing methods; 2) the current asymmetry of interests between EEU members; 3) the differing models for electricity market integration in the EEU; and 4) how Brussels should respond to the challenges and opportunities represented by the EEU.
