This collection of essays looks at Australia’s program to build its next-generation submarine fleet. More specifically, the essays focus on 1) Canberra's future strategic /technological environment; 2) the strategy the country has adopted to deal with it; 3) the pros and cons of the countries who want to build the subs (Japan, Germany and France); 4) the project management and industrial requirements associated with the project; and 5) the costs, risks and capabilities trade-offs that will have to be made as the final submarine design emerges.
