This first issue of China Security addresses the implications for the future of China's nuclear policies and US-China nuclear relations. The articles particularly assess the comments of Major-General Zhu Chenghu, dean of China's National Defense University, regarding a nuclear existency should conflict arise with the US over the Taiwan Straits. They not only focus on China's nuclear strategy and ambitions, but also reflect on how US policies and nuclear strategy are driving forces behind the Chinese concerns. The paper further discusses preemption and deterrence in the 21st century and China's insistence on No-First-Use.
