This report focuses on the key drivers and issues that are affecting the management of fisheries in the Indian, Pacific and Southern Oceans, to include Australia's priorities. The report's authors specifically look at 1) Canberra’s engagement with regional fisheries management organizations; 2) the different interests of coastal states and distant-water fishing nations; 3) the general problems surrounding fisheries, which turn on access, allocation, capacity, coordination and sustainability issues; and 4) areas where Australia's whole-of-government expertise can be effectively leveraged to improve regional fisheries management and meet broader regional strategic goals.
