This paper analyzes Russia’s current policies and interests in the Arctic. More specifically, the text’s author discusses 1) the recentralization of political power in Russia and its impact on the country's Arctic policies; 2) the difficulties Moscow faces in realizing its hydrocarbon and maritime transport potential in the region; 3) the uncertainty surrounding Russia’s growing military presence in the Arctic; and 4) the country’s level of cooperation in facilitating Arctic governance.
