This comment confirms that alongside risking regional conflict with its East Asian neighbors, China’s expansionist activities in the South China Seas are indeed aggravating relations with Washington. While exploring this general topic, the text's author also discusses 1) the differing interpretations of maritime law and the Convention on the Law of the Sea, and 2) the increasing potential for military escalation, especially since the US Navy fully intends to step up its freedom of navigation operations in the region.
