This publication takes a detailed look at China’s past and present Maritime Silk Road. More specifically, the author discusses 1) the historical dimensions of this route; 2) Xi Jinping’s vision for a new Road, including its opportunities and risks; 3) current dangerous developments in the East and South China Seas; and 4) the EU’s stakes in Asia's maritime security. The author concludes by providing 12 recommendations for EU stakeholders in this area.
