This commentary looks at the threat posed by the so-called Islamic State (IS) to domestic security in Europe and how European governments should respond. The author additionally describes the threat’s primary source – namely, the spread of extremist ideology; questions the law enforcement responses to the attacks in Paris and Brussels; and discusses what European countries should do to counter IS ideology and messaging.
