This commentary explains why Beijing believes it has no choice but to continue participating in Myanmar's peace process after the installation of the National League of Democracy Government in April 2016. Additionally, the text's author 1) reviews China's peace efforts during the previous Thein Sein government; 2) explains why Beijing's role within Myanmar has always been controversial; and 3) considers what courses of action the Chinese might take in the future.
