This publication contends that the last time any real attention was paid to what Australia’s regional environment means for defense in the north of the country was in Paul Dibb’s 1986 Review of Defence Capabilities and the 1987 Defence White Paper. As the strategic environment has changed dramatically since then, this collection of essays provides a much needed contemporary analysis of the importance of the Australia’s North to the country’s security and defense.
