This report on the Ivorian crisis first identifies the relevant actors. The author then analyzes major events in Côte d'Ivoire starting with the country's more than thirty years of stability and relative economic prosperity until the early 1990s. She then explains how ethnic, political and economic tensions escalated and led to the 1999 coup d'état and eventually to an armed conflict. The author finally assesses the peace process and its perspectives.
