This report examines the "Norms on the Responsibilities of Transnational Corporations and Other Business Enterprises with Regard to Human Rights" that were drafted by a working group of the UN Sub-Commission on the Promotion and Protection of Human Rights. Although other initiatives on the conduct of transnational corporations (TNCs) already exist, these norms are the first legal instrument that does not emphasize the nonbinding nature. The author outlines these norms and their discussion at the 60th Commission of Human Rights before he discusses the future of these norms.
