This report outlines the social, political and legal environment for NGOs in China. The author discusses different types of NGOs active in China with respect to their legal status and degree of autonomy as well as to their field of activity. The financial situation and the public perception of NGOs in China are discussed before the author eventually provides a description of various Chinese NGOs.
