This report examines the World Social Forum (WSF), explaining its origins and objectives and discussing the content and outcomes of the forums in Bamako, Mali and Caracas, Venezuela in 2006. The author particularly addresses two challenges the movement faces, namely its capacity to become truly global and the controversial question of the possible conversion of the WSF into a political movement with concrete strategies and policies.
