In a previous publication, this text’s author argued that the crisis accompanying China’s aspirations to become a global hegemon and counter-efforts by other states is precipitating a new Thirty Years War. In this text, the author reflects on whether this crisis is escalating and what this could mean. Key insights include 1) that China and Russia believe the threat of a war between Washington and a Eurasian bloc, led by Beijing and Moscow, is growing; 2) Beijing has given up expectations for a trade deal with Washington anytime soon; 3) China is increasingly preparing itself for a future war with the US; and more.
