This paper examines the Strategic Defense Initiative (SDI) of the United States and its influences on arms control treaties. The author provides a historical overview over different arms control treaties between the US and the former Soviet Union and explains how the SDI progam affected the content of the treaties. The paper concludes that although its effect is not widely acknowledged, SDI has exerted considerable influence on the arms control process.
