This paper appraises the East Asia Summit (EAS) held in December 2005 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. It states that the summit leaders pledged themselves to work toward realizing the dream of building an Asian Community, which is to be achieved through a broad-based dialogue on strategic, political and economic issues of common interest. In this dialogue process, the significance of issues like financial stability, energy security, economic integration, growth and investment expansion, narrowing the developmental gap and the eradication of poverty, and good governance were highlighted.
