This policy brief examines the plight of survivors of small arms violence, and identifies their medical, psychological, social and economic needs. Considering assistance to survivors through a wider development and violence prevention lens, it suggests linkages that need to be built with government agencies and other priorities. It argues that by drawing lessons from the landmines process in particular, a number of successful approaches can be replicated or supported.
