This paper discusses the EU-Russia relationship in the light of the signing of four "road-map" documents on the Common Economic Space, the Common Space of Freedom, Security and Justice, the Common Space of External Security, and the Common Space on Research, Education and Culture in May 2005. It critically evaluates the achievements stating that the contradiction of EU democracy promotion and Russian de-democratization could not be solved sufficiently.
