This paper analyzes the social and economic situation in southeastern Turkey, especially the Kurdish settled areas. It outlines the violation of human rights of the southeast region's inhabitants - the Kurdish population in particular - that creates persisting discontent in the region. It further criticizes the central government's development plan, Southeastern Anatolia, arguing that it will not improve the socio-economic situation in the underdeveloped region of Turkey.
