This background brief addresses the state of the negotiations between Singapore and India on the signing of a Comprehensive Economic Cooperation Agreement (CECA). The brief outlines the developments that led to the start of the negotiations on the CECA and introduces the backgrounds with regard to trade policies, the WTO and the political circumstances. Issues that were to be solved on the way to the CECA are trade in goods, investment, banking, information sharing and services. The brief concludes that both Singapore and India would benefit from the CECA in domestic and international terms.
