This brief discusses the pros and cons of introducing full capital account convertibility (CAC) in India. The brief attempts to define what CAC is - or should be - and reviews the results of a commission that worked on a road map to full convertibility of the rupee. The author weighs arguments for and against introducing CAC in India and states that CAC has become a necessity.
