This conference report focuses on the implications that civil and religious conflicts have for international security. The conference is the first workshop as part of the IDSS Civil and Internal Conflict Program, whose aim is to bring together theoreticians from the field of civil conflict and area studies experts who have conducted research in the South and Southeast Asia region. The discussions focus on the phenomenon of religious conflict, the need to understand the nexus of religion, conflict and politics and how religious texts are misinterpreted by terrorist organizations for their own benefit.
