Using the background of Chinese President Hu Jintao's visit to India in November 2006, this paper gives a broad account of Sino-Indian relations and of the international situation in Asia. The paper considers the objectives of the visit, analyzes some of the outcomes and achievements, and identifies existing challenges and prospects for Sino-Indian cooperation. Furthermore, the paper examines the wider implications beyond the region. The paper concludes that India and China are not rivals but partners for the future.
