This paper provides an overview of the central findings emerging from two studies, "Stateless Justice in Somalia" and "The Role of Informal Justice Systems in Reconstructing the Rule of Law in Post-Conflict Situations." On the basis of this overview, it argues that the international community should engage with the existing informal justice systems in Burundi and Somalia. Finally, and using recommendations contained in both reports, it points out certain specific fields in which this engagement might prove most useful.
