This analysis focuses on the activities of the 2005 UN First Committee as it relates to the issues of conventional weapons, in particular small arms and light weapons control and its implications for multilateral processes to address the arms trade and reduce gun violence. The author concludes that despite difficult circumstances some marked progress has been achieved by the UN First Committee.
