This paper examines the operational and strategic level of war as well as the influences of speed and mass on the outcome of combat. It focuses on the lessons of Gulf War II. The author concludes that having a critical mass of superior force-mix ensures greater operational flexibility and sustainability for meeting the conventional and unconventional challenges of contemporary and future military operations.
