This paper examines China's changing security relations with Southeast Asia. It highlights the complexity of this relationship characterized by rivalry and cooperation. It also analyzes the extent of economic competition between China and Southeast Asia. The paper assesses Chinese power projection capabilities in Southeast Asia and looks at strategies adopted by ASEAN members to engage China.
