This paper examines the linkages between the norms and practices of sovereignty and the discourse on the formation of political identity. It recognizes sovereignty as a subjective social construct that is tied to the politics of identity. The paper also states that by defining sovereignty in terms of exclusivity, it becomes an obstacle to human emancipation.
