This paper traces the securitization of US foreign economic policy during the Bush administration with reference to East Asia. It argues that the US has been unable to resist linking foreign economic and security policy. One reason is that the economic globalization is influenced by the US national security agenda. The paper further raises questions about the implications of the US approach to foreign policy for world order.
