This paper argues that the Indo-Chinese enlargement of ASEAN has the potential to enhance ASEAN economic integration. The author argues that such an enlargement would extend the dimensions of the ASEAN regional market and the range of internal industrial complementarities offered to investors. The paper questions the economic gains if regional economic integration ignores socio-economic divisions within and between ASEAN states.
