This paper provides an examination of Islamic educational institutions (madrassahs) in Pakistan. The author analyzes how madrassahs have changed over time and how they have become increasingly linked to sectarianism, militancy and even terrorism. The paper states that the general development of sectarianism in Pakistan has fueled the increasingly fundamentalist nature of the madrassahs and has helped turn the country into a breeding ground for transnational terrorists.
