This paper examines the process and political economy of defense industrialization in Singapore. The first part traces the trajectory of defense industrialization, examining and problematizing the linkages between defense spending and economic development. The second section focuses on the defense industrial base and looks at the process of defense production. The author suggests that there has been a shift from Singapore's initial mercantilist posture and an abandonment of autarky.
