This paper provides an overview of Africa's economic performance. The author explains that while the rest of the world has experienced continuous, often spectacular growth, Africa's economic development has stagnated. The paper explains that most African states suffer from poor governance and insufficient legal frameworks in order to grow quickly, and that generally only a few African countries are ready to participate in the global economy.
