This paper discusses the dynamics of great power politics in East Asia. The author details the fine political balancing process between multipolarity and hegemony in the region. The paper states that any aggressive efforts by the US to deploy missile defense would likely destabilize East Asia. At the same time the paper also points out that China, Japan and the United States must all exercise necessary reason, restraint and responsibility in their policymaking and implementation, or face the prospect of East Asia as the likely setting of a great power future conflict.
