This paper examines the ideological constructions within US militarism and defense strategy. Using the US national security discourse on missile defense, the author analyzes the relationship between US national and theatre missile defense policy. The paper explains that various US strategy constructions of potential or exaggerated threats, as possibly posed by rogue states or China, are dangerous and unbalanced. The author explains that the very construction of hypothetical dangers in the security discourse is fundamentally typical for US defense strategy and identity.
