This paper discusses the economic and developmental concepts behind the ASEAN Free Trade Area (AFTA). The author discusses AFTA in the context of regionalization and globalization and analyzes the structure of the trade area. The paper describes AFTA as a platform for bringing foreign direct investment (FDI) to Southeast Asia.
