This report addresses steps and developments in Colombia’s struggle to demobilize its domestic insurgent groups. The report summarizes content and consequences of the Ralito II Accord between the government and the United Self-Defence Forces of Colombia (AUC) and presents experiences from the first large demobilization in the city of Medellín. Subsequently, the paper discusses problems associated with demobilization and the prospects of new negotiations with the ELN insurgent group.
