This paper details the controversial US Customs Service Container Security Initiative (CSI). The author describes the CSI as a radical product of US security re-evaluation and as an issue that has created big waves throughout the international world of maritime commerce and security. The paper provides a broad appraisal of CSI and elaborates on the various international concerns regarding the implementation of CSI regimes.
