This paper examines the discourse on "securitization" in the Asia-Pacific security studies context. The author argues that the articulators of securitization fail to take seriously the radical possibilities afforded by their concept. He states that human security discourse is less about the security of humans than a "practice of statecraft." The author concludes that critical social movements are giving a possible avenue of resistance and politicization with the "emancipating" of human concerns from existing securitized discourses.
