This report provides information on the Palestinian terrorist and religious organization Hamas including its origins, ideology and political objectives. First, the paper addresses Hamas’ history and development and sheds light on its internal structure, charter and stance on the use of violence and a future two-state solution. Subsequently, the paper presents an outlook with a focus on how to deal with Hamas in the future and suggests a possible way forward. The paper argues that a strategy based on military action alone is unlikely to meet the security and ideological challenge the movement presents.
