This report addresses the Palestinian refugee question as related to the Arab-Israeli conflict and explores reasons for its continued political prominence. The paper provides information on the Palestinian refugees’ situation today, on the significance of the refugee question and on some illustrative events that shed light on the conflict. Subsequently, the paper presents the refugees’ own perspective of the problem and introduces the various political forces that have used the refugee question for mobilization. The paper argues that the refugee question is not at the heart of the conflict and that an internal Palestinian dialogue is overdue.
