This paper reviews the concept of globalization. It analyzes how the Vietnamese understand this concept and its positive and negative impacts on the security of Vietnam and the region. The author states that uncontrolled globalization may lead to social chaos, the decline of government control and the eventual decline of states' abilities to deal effectively with their security problems. Finally the paper explores ways of promoting positive aspects of globalization while reducing its negative consequences.
