This briefing analyzes the relationship between Georgia and Abkhazia. It gives an overview of the negotiation process in the Georgian-Abkhazian conflict including the status issue, and also outlines the future of the CIS peacekeeping mission and the situation of Georgian refugees and IDPs. It argues that Georgia and Abkhazia should focus on confidence building and practical cooperation rather than seeking solutions to key political issues, in particular final status which have little hope of success in the current political environment.
