This working paper discusses whether there is a threat to local land transportation infrastructure in Singapore and what can be done to counter it. The author argues that Southeast Asia's most infamous terror network, Jemaah Islamiyah, lacks the capability to strike at Singapore's commuter transportation system. Nonetheless, he argues that other adjacent threats exist, including a possible attack by a homegrown terror cell, attempted suicides by deranged individuals, or the disruption of service via a wave of hoaxes by pranksters or terror group sympathizers.
