This briefing outlines Gus Dur's election as Indonesian president in the light of a political crisis in the country. It examines the possible consequences and outcome of the political crisis and the danger of spreading violence as the political leadership could not keep its promises for democratization and economic development. It then examines the possibility of a constitutional reform to solve the crisis.
